CSV viewer and editor
Open any CSV or TSV as a proper table without Excel. Search it, sort by any column, fix a cell, delete junk rows and save the result back to CSV.
Loading the tool…How to use it
- Drop a CSV file or paste text; the delimiter is detected for you.
- Click a column name to sort, type in the filter box to find rows, and click any cell to edit it.
- Download the edited CSV (the whole table, or just the filtered rows).
Private by design
The conversion runs as JavaScript in this tab. Your data is not uploaded, logged or stored. There is no account and no file-size paywall.
Why not just double-click it?
Spreadsheet apps change data when they open a CSV: long numbers turn into 1.23E+15, leading zeros vanish from phone numbers and ZIP codes, and strings like 1-2 become dates. This viewer treats every cell as text, so what you see is exactly what is in the file.
Editing tools
Cells are editable in place. You can add a row, add a named column, delete selected rows or a column, rename headers, trim whitespace in every cell, and transpose the table so rows become columns. Column stats show how many cells are filled and how many distinct values each column has.
Questions
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read by JavaScript in this tab and never leaves your device. You can load the page, switch off Wi-Fi and it keeps working.
What is the largest file it can open?
It renders rows in pages, so files with a few hundred thousand rows stay responsive. Very large files are limited by browser memory.
Can I open a semicolon-separated file?
Yes. Auto-detect recognises commas, semicolons, tabs and pipes, and you can override it.
Will my edits be lost if I close the tab?
Yes, nothing is stored. Download the CSV before you leave.
How do I open a CSV file without Excel?
Drop it on this page. It opens as a sortable, searchable table in your browser without changing any values. Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc and Numbers also open CSV for free.
Why does my CSV show strange characters like é ?
The file is not UTF-8, often Windows-1252 from an older Excel export. DataKit detects this when you open the file, and you can switch the encoding manually in the bar under the text box.
Can I export the table as JSON?
Yes. Download JSON saves the current (filtered and sorted) rows as an array of objects.
