How to use it

  1. Paste YAML or drop a .yml file.
  2. Choose indentation.
  3. Copy or download the JSON.

Private by design

The conversion runs as JavaScript in this tab. Your data is not uploaded, logged or stored. There is no account and no file-size paywall.

YAML gotchas that show up in JSON

Unquoted values are typed: yes/no stay strings under YAML 1.2 (used here), but 0755 is read as a number and 1e3 as 1000. Quote a value in YAML if it must stay a string. Anchors (&name) and aliases (*name) are expanded, so shared blocks appear in full in the JSON.

Multiple documents

A file with several documents separated by --- needs one conversion per document; paste them one at a time.

Questions

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read by JavaScript in this tab and never leaves your device. You can load the page, switch off Wi-Fi and it keeps working.

Are comments kept?

No. JSON has no comments, so YAML comments are dropped.

Why does my YAML fail with “bad indentation”?

YAML is whitespace-sensitive and does not allow tabs for indentation. The error message gives the line and column.
